22nd June 2008...

Spent the day learning how to weld and ended up with a frame to bolt the wheels to, that sits underneath the MDF base. The battery box sits between the wheels, slightly forward of the wheels.

19th June 2008...

Chopped up the box tubing into;

2x 70cm lengths, 2x 70cm lengths, 2x 60cm lengths and 2x 40cm lengths. All laid out, just need to weld them together now.

15th June 2008...

I've spent a lot of time pondering today... and taking apart an old electric wheel chair to remove the motors /wheels, controls and battery box.

I've also cut out some 18mm MDF, to fit inside the top of the fender, to the underside I'll bolt a custom frame as per the picture below.

The frame will be 70cm front to back, and 70cm side to side; mainly giving support to the rear, but also supporting the front of the skirt for 10cm forward of the split; a 5" castor will support the front edge. The centre supports will be 40cm apart, and have dual supports for the battery box [which weighs a tonne!] and also provide the base for a seat. The motors will be bolted directly through the bars, with additional bolts though some brackets on the rear of each hub.

The motors will behind the wheels, and a seat will be made to fit around the battery box. The battery box will be modified to accommodate the Minivox voice modulator, and have a switch for the motor that powers the head. A couple of old car speakers will be accommodated in the baseboard towards the rear. The control unit /joystick for the motors will be mounted 'somewhere' convenient.

Next steps are to cut up some 20mm steel box tubing and weld it together...

2nd April 2008...

I picked up a fibreglass base from a fellow Dalek Builder today, makes a tonne of difference to how Dalek looks... More on this later on when I start to sort out the innards... from an old electric wheel chair that will arrive next week...
